Part I. Creating an Export File for Accelerated Reader

1.  Using the administrative account, open Accelerated Reader Manager.  Select School

2.  Click on the Students button

3. Click on the Students menu and select Export

4. Select the Student(s) that you wish to export

5. You can select more than one student by holding down the Ctrl key while you click.  Once you have them selected, Click on the Next button.

6. Chose to export the Student with all Student Records.  Click the Finish button.

7.  On the left panel select the Desktop and give the file a name.  I suggest you use the name of the school where the students are going.  Keep the .exp after the file name to show that it is an export file.  Click the Save button

8.  After exporting successfully, you can delete the student(s) from your school by selecting each student and clicking the Delete button on the left panel

9. Now you can Exit Accelerated Reader Management

10.  Now send the export file as an attachment in an email to the school secretary (or other AR contact) in the school to where the student(s) are assigned.

Part II. Importing the File for a New Student

1.  When you get the new email, click on the File menu and Save the export file to the Desktop

2. Open Accelerated Reader Management using the administrative login and follow steps 1-3 in Part I, except choose Import in Step 3.

3. Choose the export file that was attached to the email and saved on the desktop.  Click the Open button.

4. Select the students that you wish to import and click the Next button

5. You will have the choice whether you wish to enroll them in a class.  Make your choice and click Next.  If you choose to enroll them you will be given a list of classes and teachers.  Note: If they are going into different classes then just choose to import the students without enrolling them.  You can enroll them later.

6. You are done!  The students will now appear on your list.  They will have all their scores from their previous school.  Don’t forget that the students must be enrolled in both Accelerated Reader and in Star Reading separately.  If you use other Renaissance Learning titles, like Accelerated Math, you will need to enroll them in their respective programs.
